ESN-HELGA provides every incoming HAAGA-HELIA exchange student with a tutor. Each tutor is a HAAGA-HELIA student and an ESN-HELGA member. Most tutors are tutoring many students at the same time. The tutor's most important task is to be your friend and help you out with problems.
Your tutor contacts you by e-mail already before your arrival. We try to get everyone in touch with their tutor before they arrive so please make sure you write your e-mail address clearly on your application form to study at HAAGA-HELIA. In case you don't hear from your tutor, contact ESN-HELGA and tell your name, home institution and country you are coming from. Your tutor will then e-mail you back and you can ask any questions you may have about coming to Finland.
Tutors also collect you when you arrive in Finland, they take you to your new home and show you around the local area. You do not have to pay ESN-HELGA for picking you up; you only pay for your own bus ticket to reach your apartment. Upon your arrival the tutor shows you for example, where to buy food, how do you get to the school and you can also ask all kinds of questions you have in mind. Once you are settled your tutor is still there as a friend to provide advice and help you out when you have a problem.
The most important thing is to let us know your arrival time to Finland. ESN-HELGA tutors have the keys to your HOAS student apartment so without meeting them you might be homeless when you arrive! Inform your arrival time by filling in the arrival form in HAAGA-HELIA Student Exchange Incoming website.
